Account Manager (Export Consultant for Machinery)

1. Background

Russian invasion has caused massive disruption of economic activity in Ukraine and damage to the infrastructure, environment, and livelihoods of the Ukrainian people. The war is still ongoing, but the government is already working on activities for the rapid recovery of Ukraine. The Export booster project is among indicated activities. The project is aimed at supporting exports through the development of Ukrainian manufacturers' capabilities (including SMEs) in entering new markets, internationalization of production activities, and integration into supply chains of the EU, Great Britain, etc. Also ensuring the penetration and wide presence of Ukrainian goods with high added value in international markets.

The Export Booster project is an initiative of the Ministry of Economy of Ukraine, implemented by the Reform Support Team with the support of the USAID Economic Resilience Activity in partnership with the Entrepreneurship and Export Promotion Office.

As the russian invasion goes on Ukraine's GDP shrinks and local market capacity is also shrinking, the great challenge is to recover the export component, facilitate the increase of export by all manufacturers and support newcomers to the foreign markets. Therefore, Ukrainian manufacturers (SME’s) are affected by the lack of capacity, sometimes knowledge and resources for reaching foreign markets. To address the problem mentioned above, the project will work with local manufacturers (SMEs) to introduce mechanisms and scalable approaches to enable penetration on foreign markets and promote the integration of Ukrainian manufacturers into the global supply chains.

2. Objective(s)

The Account Manager is responsible for (1) creating a list of possible exporters of the machinery industry (clients) (2) communicating with clients to indicate their export capacity and needs and ensure that their needs are understood and addressed (3) collaborating with project Country managers to ensure that they fulfill clients requests towards export activities (4) guide and assist selected companies through the diagnostics conducted and provide a diagnostic report assessing the conditions of the current export practices (5) acting as the client’s representative to coordinate all the necessary activities aimed at increasing the company's export capacity and entering the foreign market.

3. Position and reporting line

The Account Manager reports to the Deputy Project Manager and Project Manager of the Export booster project (who reports to the RST Director).

4. Duration and proposed timeframe

The initial consultancy assignment is expected to start on the 1st of February and has an estimated duration of 8 months. Subject to the availability of funding, the performance of the selected consultant, and the specific needs of the project, this appointment may be extended.

5. Main Duties, Responsibilities

  • Search and interaction with potential exporters (orientation of manufacturers to market requirements).
  • Participation in the assessment of export potential, ranking of companies.
  • Serve as the main point of contact to beneficiaries selected for this project in all matters related to export possibilities and needs.
  • Support manufacturers in building and strengthening client relationships to achieve long-term partnerships.
  • Maintain accurate client records, keeping track of any contract updates and renewals.
  • Work with the Country managers and other internal teams to support export activities and ensure KPIs are being met.
  • Coordinate and support in export capacity building.
  • Develop consultancy assistance for addressing bottlenecks of sales, marketing, strategy, and other elements of business performance of Ukrainian manufacturers.
  • Working with analytics and coordinating with the analytics team.
  • Preparing presentations, notes and other materials.
  • Preparing timely and quality reports and status updates on project progress.
  • Support in developing a thorough understanding of requirements and export products offering to better upsell to foreign clients.

6. Expected Results

At least 10 machinery manufacturing companies received comprehensive consultancy on export (support in the export capacity building).

At least 2 new export contracts or letters of intent are signed.

7. Qualifications, Skills, and Experience

  1. Qualifications and skills:
  • Bachelor's or Master’s degree in Economics, Project Management, Marketing, Manufacturing, Engineering, or Science.
  • Professional experience in a sales or customer service role (B2B machinery industry) .
  • Professional experience in purchases and export (machinery industry).
  • Strong analytical, communication, and presentation skills.
  • Proven track record of meeting or exceeding quotas and receiving positive customer feedback.
  • PC literacy (PowerPoint, Project, Excel, Word).
  • Fluency in Ukrainian and English.
  • Ability to multitask and juggle several responsibilities simultaneously.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.

2. Professional experience:

  • Minimum 5 years of general professional experience.
  • Minimum 3 years of professional experience in economics, sales, export, purchase, or customer service. Additional experience in project management, public or business administration is an advantage.
    3. Other experience:
  • Proven knowledge and skills in manufacturing procedures (machinery industry).
  • Experience in working with multidisciplinary teams is an asset.
  • Strong understanding of manufacturing.
  • Ability to operate independently in business and political, diplomatic environments.

Salary Level: We offer competitive market-based salary levels for candidates with relevant experience.

Duty station: remote

Start date: February 2023
