Title:Music Theory Expert & Annotator (Remote) – English


Budget:$930 – $1,860 / month (Fixed Price or Hourly equivalent)


Project Duration: 3–6 months (with potential for long-term extension)


Job Description BeatPulseLabs is seeking high-level Music Annotators to listen to and technically describe tracks across various genres. This role requires a rare combination of formal music theory knowledge and advanced English proficiency .


Core Responsibilities

  • Technical Auditory Analysis: Deconstruct songs by ear to identify arrangement, instrumentation (eg, detuned synths, polyrhythms), and production techniques.
  • Structured Writing: Produce summaries in fluent English that capture the "vibe," vocal style, and emotional arc of a track.
  • Multilingual Context: (If applicable) Annotate tracks from various cultures, ensuring that cultural nuances are accurately translated into English technical descriptions.

Required Qualifications

  1. Music Theory Competency: You must be able to identify song structures, specific instruments, and mixing qualities (eg, "minimal low-end weight," "vocoder-style vocals"). A degree in Musicology, Composition, or Sound Engineering is highly preferred.
  2. English Language Mastery: You must possess a C1/C2 or Native-level command of English. You will be expected to write descriptions that are professional, grammatically perfect, and descriptive.
  3. Critical Listening: Ability to notice subtle changes in layers, such as a "trumpet layer" being removed or a "looser synth line" entering a chorus.

  • Language: Besides English, what other languages ​​do you speak/write at a professional level?
  • Technical Test: How would you describe the difference between a "warm" production tone and a "clean/cold" production tone in 2 sentences?
